HOW OLD DO YOU HAVE TO BE? It is a well known fact that the club has got more than it’s fair share of older riders, but the following tale from Pete Haswell suggests that maybe we appear younger than suggested by the number of candles on our birthday cakes.

“The wrinkly riders of the Thanet were out in force recently and had stopped at the Minnis café to refill their hot water bottles when they were approached by a stranger. The strangers opening words were ‘excuse me lads, has your club got an older members group?’. Bearing in mind that those at the Minnis were Ernie 70+, Ron 69, Ken 69, Pete 68, Malcolm 66 and the baby of the group, Mick 65, we were somewhat surprised! The stranger is in a 40+ group and hoping to move down here, so is there an untapped source of membership among these older folk? If there are any members older than us and still breathing who would like to form a breakaway training group, then please let us know.” Pete Haswell.
