Yeah if I was about 10 kilo's lighter....
When I did a bit of mountain biking they sometimes used to run a "clydesdale" class for those who'd had a couple too many pies. Maybe we need to suggest this in the hillclimb: separate prizes for the fastest time over 10st, 11st, 12st, 13st and upwards. Might have to introduce drug testing for laxatives after the weigh in though......
I'm entering in the far too many pies class....
SORRY.You cant tempt me this year,I like my lungs inside my chest.
Where does the climb actually start and finish for the event? I normally have about 40 miles in my legs by the time I get there, but might pop over after work next week to have a go just at the hill and see how quick (slow) I am before entering......
come on you lot i need some competition for the club hill climb championship this, who is brave enough
Unfortunately Jason I'm busy that day cleaning my bike and all the other club members are watching me so you're on your own ;-)
Phil, If you know Hollingbourne hill, it starts just above the last turning on the left at the bottom (just above the pub). It finishes just as it levels out at the top next to the gate of the first house on your left. If you get up in under three minutes you'll win about £500, if you do 4.30 you should beat Jason for the club champs (otherwise just let his tyres down)!!
I'll probably come and watch if I haven't moved, it's great entertainment watching people suffer......
I'm aiming to go over there on Friday after work to try out and see what time I get (ish). If it's anything under 5 minutes, I'll have a go, if it's longer than that I'll need a lift from Medway Hospital to home from someone!
How did you get on Phil?
what kind of Dad am I - I forgot that Friday was my youngest's 6th Birthday! Hope to try on Monday after work.......
Paul.
Stop cleaning your bike and get down Fowlmead on a Wednesday evening. We need your £2.See if you can get under 26 minutes.I've tried half a dozen times and just failed.
Pete, I'm not cleaning it yet, just waiting for the day of the hillclimb. As far as TT'ing at Fowlmead is concerned I can't get over excited about it I'm afraid so I'm not rushing down there but that doesn't mean I won't. I fancy the TLI road races but the cyclo-cross starts this week so I'll be giving that a dabble.
I think you'll need a bit more than £2 if only a few of you turn-up
its jason i am getting faster each week at fowlmead and i am ready for your challange on the hill climb, are you ?????
So Paul, what happened at the cyclo cross?
mmmmm, word of advice, don't decide to sort your bike out on the Saturday before the race. I discovered the sidewall was shagged on one of my tyres, and that made it feel like riding on a badly buckled wheel. As it seems to be difficult trying to buy a cyclo cross tyre at 5:30 on a Saturday afternoon in our area I decided to put a 700/25 road tyre on the front. Well after 2 laps of skitish fun trying to wrestle with the front the inevitable impact puncture resulted :-( So lesson learned, new tyres on order, and I may give the Hillingdon one a go next week, but it's a bit of a jaunt. You up for it???
No, doing the 25 on the Thanet Way - slightly closer to home.....
Just as a reminder to those who haven't entered yet, I received this e mail on Monday (24th) from Doug laidlaw the event sec. There's still time yet!
Hi to you all,
There is still time to enter this popular event. Chosen now by 10 clubs as their club championship's and of course it is also the Championship for best Kent CA rider.
Entries still looking good with the big? posts still to come.
Not so many quality climbers up for it as yet in spite of the carrots dangled. Plenty of prizes for lesser lights.
Looking forward to taking a sack full of entries off the postie in the time remaining. Holding open until Friday. If making a late decision please phone/email so that you can be included, with entry to follow.
If your entry is already on its way or of course not interested then please accept my apologies for troubling you.

Doug,

Martin, well done on the Rainham cross, looks a good course. Now I'm over my lurgy (I think) I should be at Lydden. You going?
I would of started a new topic but I can't!!
I somehow lost an extra lap on the published results for Rainham, was actually 29th behind two Pearson riders who I followed round just about all race, but still couldn't get round them at the finish. Hoping to be at Lydden, but we're moving on Tuesday, so it will depend on how much still needs to be done on the day!!
Since I can't add a topic, could someone let me know (or ask Terry for me) the start time, start location and the route for the 100 miler on the reliability ride. My mates from work are looking to accompany me, but require some details so we can meet up. Thanks.
Now answered. Thanks Pete and Terry.
As the only Thanet rider to try for the 100 miles this year, I would like to offer my sincere apologies to all members on the lack of points generated by myself on the reliability ride. I was going well up to the point that the hill up to Challock on the A251 reared it's ugly head, then I bonked in dramatic style with no power or strength in my legs at all. The very unsteep run up to the top of Charing hill took for ever as I got dropped by the 2 guys from the Fairies that I'd been riding with. Rather than suffer the rest of the route (about 50 ish miles still to go) I went back to the car and retired! I hope everyone else had a good ride, I saw what looked like a Team Support Vehicle for Thanet riders coming back past Whitstable later on covered in bikes with Thanet jerseys much in evidence!
Before I go to Oz, if anyone has a new set of legs, lungs and a decent training schedule for the Spring /Summer out there, I'd be grateful to hear about it.
I will again be making the trip down from Lincolnshire to promote the Bill Philbrook Memorial '25' It will be the 26th year I have looked after this event the last 19 in memory of Bill.
Again we have a super prize list for this very popular event. Arguably the best in the SEDC calender.
Q25/8, right on your door step. I look forward to receiving entries from the Thanet Road Club who have given this event great support over the years. The Prospectus is as under.
