Apart from the gruelling climbs and hair raising descents, the infamous Charing course presented a comparatively benign challenge thanks to the light south-westerly breeze and mild conditions. The fact that the course was shortened by 1/2 mile also reduced the early season agony. Gary Birch won the event with a blistering 51:26. Results for 1st and 2nd claim Thanet riders were:
