6 August 2008
Whilst the light easterly breeze failed to provide enough ‘shove’ on the return leg to meet the aspirations of some of the riders, for others it proved to be a good evening, with Simon Henderson recording his fastest time so far on the testing Q10/31 course. Ditto Andy Macpherson, who was experimenting with “pushing bigger gears”.

13 August 2008
A 30mph westerly wind meant that the Q10/31 was going to be a challenging proposition, so the biggest surprise of the evening was that anyone showed up at all! Stalling for time, the reluctant riders dispatched Shay Giles (in his capacity as elder statesman) to test the conditions, confident that he’d spare them… how wrong they were. While Shay was out on the course, Colin and Simon (1st and 2nd positions in the evening points competition) stood together psyching each other out and hoping that their opponent would ‘bottle’… no luck there either. So 7 riders donned numbers and sallied forth into the clutches of the howling wind. Speeds of 50mph were reported on the outbound leg; thoughtful riders avoided looking at their speed on the return leg.

20 August
A moderate westerly breeze meant that times were better than the previous week. At over 2 minutes faster, Simon Henderson’s improvement was bordering on spectacular and we were considering sending him for a drugs test when we noticed that he was riding a new bike - so it was carbon fibre not EPO that was responsible.

27 August
Another autumnal August evening greeted our final outing on the Q10/31. The breeze was from the west, so times were only average. And, despite his new sexy socks Paul Burrows only managed a long 22; word on the street is that Trinny and Susannah are scheduled to address Burrows’ sartorial shortcomings and they’d better get a move on because the sock-shock rendered our president speechless!
