Although numbers were down on the previous week, Thanet RC’s first venture onto the Thanet Way this season was well supported by riders and helpers. A north easterly breeze would have been handy; instead a brisk westerly greeted the competitors, so with a couple of notable exceptions, times could best be described as modest (yeah, ok, easy for me to say!). Colin Inett, recently back from a training camp scored maximum points, so the exercise must’ve done him good. And Shay Giles on a new ‘Boardman’ TT bike turned the tables on Chris Bax, overhauling him on the final slope.

13th May
A murky evening, but at least the rain held off. ‘Light airs’ meant faster times this week. Shay Giles was on form, winning the event with 23:07. The club competition is building nicely now, with 3 TRC riders likely to be consistent at sub 24 minute 10’s as the season progresses… indeed, despite a PB with a 24:00, Rick Perkins was heard debating 100ths of a second with the time keeper... Dave was unmoved, so 24 it remained!

‘Twas a slight and warming westerly zephyr that caressed the 16 riders who sallied forth on this most agreeable of evenings set deep in the garden of England. Thus there came to pass a smattering of PB’s.

27th May
A surprisingly good turnout on a miserable cold and windy evening; indeed, one of our regulars must have looked so dejected that a passing motorist stopped in a panic and attempted to avert a suicide leap from the aptly named ‘Heart in Hand’ bridge. In the end, Jan abandoned trying to convince her rescuer that she was taking split times on a bike race and agreed to phone the Samaritans the instant she got home!
