Thanet Road Club 25 - 5th July 2009 Q25/8

Torrential rain freshened the atmosphere at daybreak and then stopped just in time; slick organisation by our event secretary Dave Mastin!

On his last attempt Simon Henderson missed beating the hour by 10 seconds... ...at the time, our ‘roving reporter’ offered the advice “you should’ve tried harder!” Whilst you may not find this particular motivational technique in a typical coaching manual, it must be effective because when asked, Simon said “I tried harder… and it worked!” Well done Simon – a great ride.

Hannah Brinkmann and John Curry also had good outings slicing over a minute off of their previous times at this distance. But spare a thought for our secretary Terry Fearn who had intended to use the event as prep for an attempt at the 12. Terry left home (several times) with the intention of riding to the start, completing the race and then riding home, so naturally he got caught in the aforementioned torrential rain and abandoned ship (sorry Terry, inappropriate metaphor).
