And it got even windier, and it rained and the marshals froze; so all in all a good morning to stay in bed, which was what 1/2 the field elected to do. At one point the starting time keeper fell asleep due to the lack of activity. Of those who did sally forth, Steve Robertson punctured on his way to the event and Simon Henderson punctured on his way to the start. Of the Thanet contingent only Pete Huckstep made it to the end in a creditable 26:26, beating his arch rival 2nd claim Malcolm Adams (26:46), which must’ve been ‘sweet’.

The event was won by D Wheeler of Rye and District Wheelers in a staggering 20:42
