Bobbie reported...
Local sportive finishes this weekend with the Downland Autumn, previously described, but there are always winter events on the websites for the more hardy. Steve Robertson finished the season by riding the Blenheim Palace sportive event at 100 miles. As seen in Cycling Weekly, the event was both well organised and prestigious, although the fundamentalists apparently demanded energy gel instead of delicious sounding bacon sandwiches. Yeah…so would I! Steve did 7.40 for the distance which was very lumpy midway.
The 2009 Audax season closed on October 31st and as a club we scored 11 points – Graeme 7 and Bobbie 4 to make our mark on the tables. Graeme is in possession of his Randonneur 1000 award (which is events up to 300k plus another 400k). I await judgement for the 500 award for which I should be more than amply qualified. I carry two hill climb events into the next season. Again, Steve, who has been hiding his light under a bushel, tells me he completed the Crown Grimpeur at 100k in the summer - a hard event, I know, I was there. He also carries the hill climb points into the new season.
As a brief reminder to anyone fancying Audax, please ensure you state TRC as your club – that way we get the points. As for anyone looking forward to a boozy Christmas, the new Audax points season is already a week old.
