The Vets 10’s take place on the first Wednesday of each month. Riders meet at Great Chart and the racing kicks off at 10am. These are friendly events on an ‘interesting’ course.
7th July
Dave (Mastin) went to the Vets 10 this morning to do a bit of marshalling. We had 2 riders taking part. Ray Treby did 29.58 and Pete Haswell clocked 31.54. Pete reckons he has closed the gap on Ray since their previous encounter.
2nd June
Dave Mastin recorded 27:12 (getting faster, so the new bike must be doing its stuff!). Fastest of the day was Matt Miles with 21:42, which may well be a course record, but given the somewhat relaxed approach to cycling taken by the venerable 'wobblers', we can't be certain of this fact!
5th May
Our treasurer once again ventured into the wilds of Kent to have a crack at the monthly vets event. And the old lad recorded a plus on standard... well done Dave! His report follows:
"I went and did the vets 10 today at Shadoxhurst, although I'm not too sure why (because you're a masochist - Ed.). It was not that warm, and seemed to be a headwind most of the way round... why do I always ride events with headwinds both ways? (maybe because you're a self flagellating masochist - Ed.).
I did 28:49 this time, so an improvement of just over half a minute from last month and a plus of just 17 seconds (too slow, too young!). Shay also rode but was not feeling quite right and only did 25:02, good enough for third on actual time. Fastest of the day was Matt Miles who went round in 22.06, not bad for that course - possibly a course record, or at least close to it we think."
7th April
Dave Mastin snuck off to have a go at the affectionately named ‘wobblers’ 10 at Great Chart earlier this month. Shay Giles (2nd Claim) witnessed our esteemed treasurer giving his knees an airing, but despite this distraction Shay still managed to win the event with a 23:58; impressive on this meandering course on a windy day. Given the conditions and his lack of ‘race fitness’ Dave was initially chuffed with his 29:22; then he calculated his plus on his age standard and discovered it was a minus… hey ho!
