...having travelled through several showers to Newmarket, we claimed our numbers and were sitting near the start in a warm dry car contemplating the ride ahead...
Perkins: “I’m up for it”
Henderson: "I’m not! 9°C it’s raining again and blowing a hooley"
Perkins: "We need to make our mind up by 15.40"
Henderson: "Uh" - disappears to discuss the course with the few riders that have just returned and comes back prepared for a training ride.
Perkins: "15.39 well I’m riding!"
Henderson: "I haven’t come all this way not to ride – let’s go for it!"
"In the event it was a tail wind with rain to the turn and a head wind back in the dry; the sun came out as I crossed the line..." (now why does that not surprise me? Ed.)

9°C so a bit nippy, but sunny and a slight breeze to battle on the way back compared to the outward leg."
