Event 1 of 4
Dave Mastin Reported...
The club was well represented at the first of the Elan evening series of 10's on the Thanet Way by both first and second claim members. Conditions were quite hard on the way out due to a north easterly breeze. There was the usual time triallers moan, head wind on the way out and no help on the way back! Anyway, it didn't stop a couple of the riders from the club from clocking P.B's, well done to Simon H and Andy G. Fastest on the night was Kevin Tye with a 19.50.
Times for our riders were:
Simon Henderson 21.46 (PB)
Andy Girling 22.04 (PB)
Rick Perkins 22.52
Andy Burrows 25.22
Pete Huckstep 25.49
Andy McCall 25.58
Dave Mastin 25.58
Steve Robertson 26.11
2nd Claims
Shay Giles 22.50
Steve Quincey 22.54
Chris Bax 23.14

Well, if we thought the wind last week was tough, this week it ramped up by a considerable amount. Great for sailing types, not so good for cyclists. Several riders ditched their aero wheels for something more modest. Although the weather lead to a number of non-starters, the club had a 100% turnout from it's entrants.
As expected, times were slower the previous week, with most riders at least half a minute or more down on last weeks times. No P.B.'s up for grabs this time! Times of our intrepid band were:-
Andy Girling 22.41
Simon Henderson 22.49
Rick Perkins 23.53
Andy Burrows 25.52
Pete Huckstep 26.20
Colin Inett 26.28
Dave Mastin 26.36
Steve Roberston 27.30
Andy McCall 27.33
Second claimers
Steve Quincey 23.28
Chris Bax 23.50
Shay Giles 24.14
Malcolm Adams 27.09
Fastest time on the night was Pete Tadros (InGear) with 20.28, with a tie for second place with Dave Wheeler (Rye & District Wheelers) and Kevin Tye (Data Team Allstars) both recording 20.34.

The third round of the VC Elan summer series was held once again with a stiff north easterly breeze (I thought our prevailing winds are south westerlies - haven't had many of thos this year). The wind was lighter than week 2, but stronger than week 1, and this was reflected in the times. Most riders who have ridden all 3 events were quicker than week 2, but slower than the first week. Again the club had a good showing of 1st and 2nd members taking part.
Club times were as follows:-
Simon Henderson 22.16
Andy Girling 22.21
Rick Perkins 23.34
Andy Burrows 25.44
Pete Huckstep 26.15
Dave Mastin 26.19
Steve Robertson 26.35
Steve Quincey 22.50
Shay Giles 23.17
Chris Bax 23.39
Malcolm Adams 26.42
Fastest overall was Dave Wheeler (Rye & District Wheelers) with 20.27
Last weekend, Rick Perkins went over the water to the land of shell suits and white stilettos to ride the VTTA (East Anglia) 25. Rick's reward for his time and effort was a PB of 57.34.

The final VC Elan 10 on the Thanet Way saw a marked improvement in the weather and corresponding improvements in rider's times. The club was represented by it's regular Thursday night crew of first and second claim members, except for Steve Roberston. Steve was in Rotterdam and believed this to be a legitmate reason for not riding. Wind was a bit variable and seemed to be from the south east but was difficult to pin down.
Pete Huckstep and Andy Girling both came away with PB's, and Simon Henderson was just a second away from equalling his. The Mastin - McCall battle was resolved in favour of the latter by the smallest of margins.
Fastest on the night was Kevin Tye with 19.19, which is possibly the 3rd fastest time ever on this course. Kevin also won the 4 event series overall from Dave Wheeler.
Club times were:-
Simon Henderson 21.47
Andy Girling 21.49 (PB)
Rick Perkins 22.55
Pete Huckstep 24.49 (PB)
Andy Burrows 24.52
Andy McCall 25.11
Dave Mastin 25.12 (season's PB)
Colin Inett 25.38
Steve Quincey 22.23
Shay Giles 22.24
Chris Bax 23.27
Malcolm Adams 25.29
