Gravesend CC 10 - 19th June 2010 Q10/22

Dave Mastin Reported...

This was a story of mixed fortunes for club riders on a challenging day on the A20 Harrietsham to Charing course.

Firstly, I managed to almost get lost between the HQ and the start, but a sixth sense kicked in (mmmm... wonder what happened to the other five? Ed.) and I turned around and eventually arrived with a bit of time to spare. On checking a map on my return home, it seems I was on my way to Headcorn. The most potentially embarrasing thing was another rider was following me, thinking I knew where I was going (well that's the 'Where the Hell are we' hat awarded for 2010... ang on a minute though, there's more! Ed.). On the theme of getting lost, this also affected Steve Robertson, who didn't even go to the correct HQ! (Hells teeth... still, at least he didn't put his clock back 2 hours this time (sorry Steve couldn't resist it!) Ed.) Steve went to Harrietsham, when we were all in Lenham. After consulting the start sheet (always a good thing to do), Steve nipped up to Lenham, grabbed his number and rushed to the start, missing his start time by 40 seconds. Andy Macpherson rode but was a DNF. Apparently, he put a new bottle cage on his bike, but had forgotten to tighten the bolts (crikey, makes ya proud to be a TRC member! Ed.). This resulted in the cage parting company with the bike and as the cage is a rather expensive bit of carbon fibre, Andy thought he would go back and collect it rather than ride on.

On the success front, Andy Burrows, warming up for the 100 the next day, picked up the second vets prize, being narrowly beaten by Malcolm Adams who got the first vets prize.

Times were as follows:-

Andy Burrows 26.58
Dave Mastin 27.51
Malcolm Adams 27.54
Steve Robertson 29.23 (inc. late start of 40 secs)
Andy Macpherson DNF
