A sunny, breezy bank holiday Monday for this event, run by Medway Velo in aid of the Kent Air Ambulance.

The Westerly wind blew a TRC mini-peleton of Bobbie, Dave, Colin, Doug, Michael and Steve at rapid rate across east Kent to reach the half-way feed station of the 100km route within 2 hrs. Further ahead, and making excellent progress were Bill and Jonah Hawkes. Having feasted on bananas, flapjacks and jaffa cakes, we set off back towards the start and into the headwind.
When we reached the A252 we heard sirens behind us and before we knew what was happening a Fiesta went flying past, lost control and crashed into the hedge at the side of the road... this was followed by a good number of armed police jumping out of an unmarked BMW and getting rather agitated with the driver to say the least! As the police closed the road one of the TRC lot protested "Excuse me, but there's a cycle event on you know!" We were kept waiting for around 45 mins, details were taken from the TRC witnesses and then eventually we were allowed to carry on, finishing with 4:45 by the time-keeper's watch. However, the time was not of great importance, and it was nice to have got round in one piece and enjoyed some good weather and fresh air on a pleasant bank holiday ride.
