Lydden midweek training moves to Fowlmead

Due to issues relating to the renewal of planning consent for cycling at Lydden Motor Racing Circuit, the long established and successful VC Deal training races will be held in 2010 at Fowlmead Country Park.

The first session will be on Tuesday 20th April commencing at 6.30pm. The format of the training session will be unchanged but Fowlmead will enable us to provide different circuit options i.e. the full, the lower or the top criterium circuit.

New Club Rides for 2010

Thanet RC and ‘Addictive Bikes’ are aiming to get Thanet riders on their bikes this season and are offering new options for social cycling. Interested? If so then pop into Toby’s place and add your name to the list.

SUNDAY MOUNTAIN BIKE RIDE
Meet at ‘Addictive Bikes’ at 10.am for a 10.30 departure. Transport to an off-road venue will be by van and car-share. Our aim is to use the ‘Addictive’ van to take the bikes, with the riders utilising a car-share option. The ride will be of 3 to 4 hours duration, mainly off-road and suitable for riders of all abilities. The aim is to have some fun and include a break for ‘refuelling’. Target venues will include woodlands in and around Canterbury, North Downs Way, Pilgrims Way, and perhaps later in the year, some places further afield… mmmm the Andes trail is supposed to be nice during the summer months (Ed.).

SATURDAY ROAD RIDE
Meet at ‘Addictive Bikes’ at 10.00am for a 10.15 start. Our aim will be to put some variation into your cycling week, so in essence this ride will:
- take a different route to the Sunday run…
- be a different route every week (ok, a big ask, but we’ll do our best!)
- take in some of the nicest, quietest roads in the county.
- be between 4 and 5 hours in duration and cover 60 miles (depending on the leader and makeup of the group).
- definitely NOT BE A RACE, just a nice ride at a steady pace.

THURSDAY EVENING ROAD RIDE
Meet at ‘Addictive Bikes’ at 6.15 for a 6.30pm start. This is a stress relief ride after a hard/boring day at work or perhaps a ‘get out of the house work’ ride. It will be a straightforward Canterbury(ish) and back jaunt of about 2 hours max. You will need good lights as it will be dark. And we’ll aim not to stop unless someone is stricken by the dreaded p-word, or some other mechanical.

So just to recap, if any of the above whets your appetite, then call in to ‘Addictive’ and feed your habit!

Happy and safe cycling.
