Southborough 10 - 1st January 2010 Q10/10

Christine Burrows reported:

We set off at 8am and drove through two blizzards before arriving at Bethersden more or less in one piece - Ashford was horrendous! A few intrepid souls made it to the hall and after a course inspection and 15 minute late start, 41 of the 75 entrants took to the road and nearly as many mad spectators stood about.

The race was won in 23:06 by Dave Wheeler (Sean Yates came 5th this year)

Andy Burrows 28:13 3rd vet on std
Steve Robertson 28:34
Shay Giles (TRC 2nd Claim) 26:07 1st vet

Boxing Day '10' 2009

The Velogods delivered a brief window of dry weather, with a moderate south westerly breeze and a balmy 9 degrees Celsius. A lucky 13 riders took advantage of these clement conditions on bikes ranging from the TT exotica to a ‘shopper’ (sorry Shay, no way to talk about your new Dolan!). Paul Burrows clocked the fastest time; he was wearing shorts, so was probably in a hurry to get it over with!

VTTA 15 - 11 October 2009 Q15/20

Colin Inett reported that on a fine dry morning with a light wind, the Q15/20 "didn't seem any easier", although this was probably because he and Andy were trying so hard; a fact evidenced by the TRC duo lifting the team prize with a plus of 12:05... well done the lads!

Colin Inett 43:07
Andy Burrows 39:41
Steve Robertson 43:49

Hill Climb - 4th October 2009 QHC/11

Simon Henderson was the lone TRC competitor in Wignore CC's annual ‘gut wrenching’ extravaganza. After turning in a time of 4:21:01, Simon reported that although he didn’t have a pre race warm-up, he did ride the hill before the event, since driving 30 miles for a 5 minute bike ride seemed a bit of a waste! Simon thanked Bobbie (Fairhall) and Colin (Inett) for cheering him on. Indeed, the support crew must have done a good job, because a glance back through the records reveals that this is the fastest that a TRC rider has scaled Harrietsham Hill for some years; so even if the rest of us had turned up mob-handed with bikes, he’d still have won, thus Simon is our worthy 2009 Hill-Climb Champion; well done Simon!

Peter Tadros (In Gear Quickfit RT) won the event in 3:08:05

KCA 25 - 20th September 2009 Q25/10

Dave Mastin reported...

Simon Henderson - 1:00:41
Rick Perkins - 1:03:21
Andy Macpherson - 1:04:25

Winner was Dave Wheeler (Rye & Dist Wh) - 54:57

Quite a hard morning with a strong breeze from the NE making the return legs hard work.

VTTA 50 - 13 September 2009 Q50/11

Simon Henderson reported as follows...

"Ah, O’Bi Wan,
Failed miserably on the roving reporter front (got that one right mate - come back Christine and Colin, we need you urgently! ed.)

Shay was 2nd on standard time, but I can’t remember what that was. As for the morning, first lap not too bad, windy up from Lydd, 2nd lap windy from Camber to Lydd and up Ham Street.

Simon Henderson 2.07.01 PB - well chuffed! (the force is strong with this one - ed.)

Winner was Malcolm Davies 1.56.11"

...so I telephoned Shay to ask him what his plus was and although we spoke for best part of an hour, I forgot to ask him (therefore my apologies for the earlier jibe Simon); he did however mention that his actual time was 2:08:36 and that Chris Bax recorded 2:11:40. Andy Macpherson DNF'd, so the indications are that Colin Inett will be TRC's senior champion this year.

2009 Awards

The 'David Saffery Award' for outstanding services to our club was awarded to Colin Robinson. This was particularly appropriate as thanks to Colin's work in introducing 'Go-Ride', Dave was able to witness the influx of young people into TRC, thus ensuring the future of the club he loved so much.

Wednesday Evening 10's September 2009

2nd September
Timed to perfection, with the rain falling just as we finished and only a moderate SW breeze to contend with; so to those of you who stayed away due to impending bad weather… BAD DECISION, especially as only 4 points separates first and second places in the points competition with only one week to go!

9th September
A fresh north easterly – just what we didn’t want; nevertheless, expectations were high, the atmosphere was electric, two TRC gladiators were about to meet for the final showdown in the evening points competition. Inett arrived first - to be precise, his bike arrived first, courtesy of Group 4 – clearly he was leaving nothing to chance. I bumped into Huckstep in the bushes; whilst my mission was obvious and straightforward, Pete was evidently checking out possible sniper positions… clearly he was leaving nothing to chance either. In the taxing conditions, everyone fell short of their previously recorded times, but in a magnificent display of grit and determination Colin only lost 15 seconds and thus scored the maximum 10 points. Pete hung on by his fingertips, just scraping 6 points; therefore the provisional standing is that the lads have tied for first place… brilliant!
