Vets 10 - 12th July 2009

And it got even windier, and it rained and the marshals froze; so all in all a good morning to stay in bed, which was what 1/2 the field elected to do. At one point the starting time keeper fell asleep due to the lack of activity. Of those who did sally forth, Steve Robertson punctured on his way to the event and Simon Henderson punctured on his way to the start. Of the Thanet contingent only Pete Huckstep made it to the end in a creditable 26:26, beating his arch rival 2nd claim Malcolm Adams (26:46), which must’ve been ‘sweet’.

KCA 10 - 11 July 2009 Q10/42

Following on from a hotly contested GHS Event won by Michael Barnes, the senior riders faced a freshening SW wind. Despite the conditions TRC's in-form Simon Henderson recorded his fastest time yet on the Fowlmead course; whereas our hon. Sec was beaten by 1 second by his daughter-in-law Debra (evidently the trouncing would have been more comprehensive had she not slowed to pose for a photo!)
Terry Fearn 30:57
Pete Haswell 30:22
Dave Mastin 29:05
Colin Inett 26:32
Simon Henderson 23:30
Paul Burrows VC Elan won the event with 22:14

Thanet Road Club 25 - 5th July 2009 Q25/8

Torrential rain freshened the atmosphere at daybreak and then stopped just in time; slick organisation by our event secretary Dave Mastin!

On his last attempt Simon Henderson missed beating the hour by 10 seconds... ...at the time, our ‘roving reporter’ offered the advice “you should’ve tried harder!” Whilst you may not find this particular motivational technique in a typical coaching manual, it must be effective because when asked, Simon said “I tried harder… and it worked!” Well done Simon – a great ride.
